This student apartment project is the first project undertaken by CIMC Modular Building in the United States, and also the first steel-structured modular housing project constructed by a Chinese enterprise in the United States.
Located on Shattuck Avenue, Berkeley, Bay Area, California, USA, the project is adjacent to downtown Berkeley, boasting complete transportation and living supporting facilities. It is an overall 4-storey box-type steel-structured modular building, with accessible rooms on the 1st floor and standard rooms on the 2nd to 4th floors. The entire apartment complex consists of 22 finely decorated rooms with complete household appliances, and all architectural design and assembly fully comply with California’s building codes.
"California has always adopted very strict green building standards and strictly controls the emission of hazardous substances, so environmentally friendly and green materials were strictly used throughout the project construction process," a relevant person in charge of the project stated.
In addition, California is located in a seismic-prone zone in the United States, where earthquakes cause significant damage to buildings. Therefore, this youth apartment has higher seismic requirements, with a seismic fortification intensity reaching Grade E.
In May 2018, all modules arrived at the Port of Oakland, USA, and were then transported to the construction site by land. All module assembly was completed within one week. In mid-September 2018, the project was successfully completed and officially opened on September 30.
