HKUST Teaching Hub

Location: Hong Kong, China
Building Type: Teaching Building
Module Type: Steel Volumetric System
Construction type: New Construction
Finished in: 2026
Area: 2,436 ㎡
Floors: 3
Modules: 61
Rooms/Keys: 7
Work scope: Design + Module Supply +Transportation + On-site Installation

The project is a three-storey permanent educational building comprising 61 steel-framed modules. Upon completion, it provides new spaces for teaching, student-faculty interaction and a wide range of learning activities, with capacity to serve approximately 900 students.

As a major teaching facility at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) delivered using Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), the Teaching Hub adopts MiC for 100% of the structure above the foundations. This includes large-span classrooms, large staircases, ramps, core structures, fully integrated MEP systems, and washrooms.

The entire project was completed and delivered in less than six months, including approximately four months for design and manufacturing and two months for on-site installation. The overall construction programme was shortened by 50%–70%, making it one of CIMC Modular Building Systems’ most time-critical and technically challenging projects delivered in Hong Kong. Close coordination among the design, approval and construction teams played a critical role in ensuring the project was completed on schedule for the start of the new academic term.
